Niederhorn Hike

The Niederhorn-to-Gemmenalphorn hike is one of the most enjoyable hikes we have ever done. Most of the way is spent hiking along the top of the mountain range, with incredible views in every direction. The flora and fauna also do not disappoint, and it’s fairly common to see Steinbock (Ibex) and Chamoix – in fact, last time we went, we were less than two meters from a Steinbock (see photo)!
The itinerary would look something like this:
- 11:00 – Everyone meets up at the Beatenberg Station (view on Map) from where we take the Bergbahn up to Niederhorn. (18 minute ride)
- 11:30 to 12:30/13:00 – We have Lunch at the top, overlooking the Thunersee and Berner Alpe. People are welcome to bring picnics or order something from the restaurant.
- 12:30/13:00 to 16:30/17:00 – We Hike! The route is 10km of mostly level and then downhill terrain. Estimated duration is 3h20min, but we calculate ~4hrs to be safe.
- ~ 17:00 – Everyone is at the bus stop (Beatenberg, Schorren), and we take the 13 minute bus ride back to Beatenberg Station.
How does that sound?
In case of the weather not being good on the 28.07.24, we would postpone it to the next Sunday on the 04.08.24.
